[136648] Per an 1856 map of Trumbull County found on the website of the Newton Falls, Ohio, public library (www.newtonfalls.org/lib/default.cfm), there were farms belonging to a "P. Hurlbutt" and an "L. Hurlbutt" located in the western part of Warren township (in an area known as Levitsburg), just about a half mile east of the Allen homestead. The farm of P. Hurlbutt is just to the south of the Mahoning River, and that of L. Hurlbutt was just to the north. There was (and still is) a bridge across the river at about that point (i.e., the vicinity of the two Hurlbutt farms).

There was also a bridge (no longer there, though its abutments are) crossing the river just to the west of the P. Hurlbutt farm and to the south of the Allen homestead. My guess is that this P. Hurlbutt is Prudence's father Pericles and that this L. Hurlbutt is her brother, Loren, and that they both remained in Warren township until they both removed to Farmington township (also in Trumbull County, two townships to the north of Braceville township) at some point after the information for the 1856 map was gathered and before 1862 when, per the Hurlburt/Hurlbutt website, Pericles is found living with his son Loren there. (I do not believe that there are any 19th century farmhouses still remaining at either of the Hurlbutt locations marked on the 1856 map.) At all events, it seems likely that Boaz and Prudence were essentially neighbors (though they lived in different townships) from the time the Hurlburts arrived in Trumbull County.

The Allen homestead at Braceville was deeded over to Boaz by his parents on the date of his marriage to Prudence, presumably in return for the younger couple's agreement to take care of the elder Allens for the remainder of their lives. (Rufus lived on there until 1829, and Lydia until 1853). At some point (probably around 1850, when their son, Thompson Wallace Allen was married), Boaz and Prudence divided the Braceville homestead into southern and northern halves, and transferred the northern half to their son, who appears to have gone by the name "Wallace" (or occasionally simply "T.W."). Thus, the "B.Allen" in the 1856 Trumbull County map is Boaz, and the "W. Allen" just to the north is his son Thompson Wallace Allen. (Notably, the T.W.'s house on the "north farm" is still there, and has been lived in consistently from the time it was built-probably about the time of his marriage to Roxana Birchard in 1850. The original log house built by Rufus Allen on the property was pulled down by Boaz at some point (probably around 1860-1865) and replaced by a "new" frame house where he and Prudence lived out the rest of their lives. That house was abandoned at some point after the farms finally passed out of the Allen family on the sale of the "south farm" in 1940. (Though it is still standing (barely), it is now a complete shambles.) After Prudence died, their grandson, Newton Allen and his family resided there (i.e., on the south farm) until Newton's death in 1913 and the death of his widow, Emma [Forman] Allen ,in 1926. The last of the Allen/Hurlburt line to live there was their son, Arthur Newton Allen, who continued to live there with his family after his mother's death until the south farm was sold by him in 1940.

[71728] Per the Hurlbut Genealogy; ' The name of the lady and the dates given, are according to the late Hon. E. Stearns notes; but Dea Andrews was confident that Louisa Butler was the first wife of Mr H. No member of his large family as far as I know however could furnish an accurate and reliable record. I have picked up from various sources what is presented here. I have given (agreeable to Dea Alfred Andrews account), two children to the first wife of Samuel, but the remainder as per statement of Mr. Stearn's. Mr.H. married (2) Catharine Goodman, though Dea Andrews says (I believe erroneously) that her name was Abigail Webster. Samuel was a farmer and lived in West Hartford, Ct; joined the church on June 18, 1808. The house of Samuel's, where he resided many years, was the birth-place of the eminent Lexicographer Noah Webster, who was born in Oct 1758. Dr Webster, cherished a warm affection for the home of his childhood, to which he made his last visit about a year before his death; he then requested Mr Hurlbut to take good care of a certain grapevine (probably planted by himself) situated about 20 rods N.W. of the house. Dr. Webster died in 1843. I am not altogether confident that the following presentation of the children is correct. The reports of Mr. Stearn's and Dea Andrews are so different, that I am not able to make the matter clear.'
